Zeus, the metallic horse
Straddling the waters of the Seine during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, ZEUS is a monumental cinematic sculpture imagined, designed and produced by Atelier blam. Pivot of the paintings “Darkness” and “Solidarity”, this work embodies a surge of hope and prowess, capable of awakening collective imaginations through a dialogue between precision mechanics and refined aesthetics.
The fruit of more than a year of research, development and manufacturing, the metal horse explores the technical and visual potential of aluminum: 3D printing for the head, brassmaking and hammering for body curves, and precise machining for articulated limbs. The key elements of its silhouette are enhanced by the application of silver leaves, accentuating its brilliance and monumentality.
Living and scenographic figure, Zeus combines traditional know-how and contemporary innovations. This work questions the boundary between craftsmanship, design and engineering, taking a technical and poetic look at movement.
